About this course

This course is designed to help you improve your IELTS score for academic, career or migration purposes.

IELTS assess the English proficiency of people who want to study or work in a country where English is the main language. This course will give you a better chance of success in one or both exams – and prepare you to meet certain entry requirements for university, TAFE or college.

This course will be delivered by Universal English College (UEC) on behalf of Australian International Studies Institute Pty Ltd trading as UEC Business.

This course also includes mock tests, to better prepare you for the actual tests.

With the IELTS Preparation courses, you will develop all the skills and confidence you need to pass one or both tests.

You will also:

  • Be taught by caring and highly-qualified teachers
  • Engage in activities that prepare you for the Academic and General IELTS test
  • Do practice tests in real test conditions and get tips for passing
  • Receive regular, personalised feedback and help with improving weaknesses
  • Have access to counselling with teachers to advance your learning quickly

What you will learn

This course will help you prepare for and pass the test. With lots of strategies and hints for success, it will teach you how to:

Listen carefully and take useful notes

Express ideas and opinions, seek clarification, pronounce certain words and other speaking strategies

Speed read, understand diagrams, analyse research, interpret questions and other reading strategies

Clearly structure and write answers, use correct grammar and other writing strategies

Entry requirements 

To enrol in this course, you must be 18 years or older. Other requirements include:

IELTS Preparation

  • IELTS Level 1: IELTS score of 4.5 or equivalent
  • IELTS Level 2: IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent
  • IELTS Level 3: IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent

Most students spend around 10 weeks at each level. However, thanks to our flexible approach, if you learn quickly, you can move to the next level sooner.

How you will be assessed

You will undertake weekly non-assessable activities, such as mock tests, and receive feedback for each one. This will measure your progress and identify areas for improvement – so you can better prepare for the IELTS test. There will also be official assessments during the exam period.

Through regular feedback, we can continually make sure your classes suit the pace and progress of your learning.
